Spatial Power in Immersive Theatres

Abstract

With the innovative development of contemporary theatre art, immersive theatre has shifted towards breaking the traditional viewing-performing boundary and placing the audience's body participation at the core position, triggering a re-examination of the spatial power relationship. This article systematically explores the multiple forms of audience body participation in immersive theatre, the reconstruction mechanism of spatial power structure from the dimensions of body phenomenology, space theory, and power discourse analysis. It is believed that the audience's active participation in the physical presence can reshape the viewing-performing relationship and challenge the power configuration of traditional theatre spaces, thereby revealing the political implications of body practice in the contemporary art field. This research provides strong support for understanding the body political space practice in contemporary art and has significant theoretical value. Moreover, its practical application cannot be ignored.
