Research on the Complementary Collaborative Innovation Mechanism and Value Co-creation in the Digital Platform Ecosystem

Abstract

Against the backdrop of the rapid development of the digital platform economy, the collaborative innovation and value co-creation between platforms and their complements have become the key driving force for the continuous growth of the ecosystem, shifting towards mechanism research. Based on the resource-based perspective and dynamic capability theory, this paper constructs a theoretical framework for complementary collaborative innovation and value co-creation in the digital platform ecosystem. It also adopts a multi-case study method to deeply analyze the value co-creation mechanism of complementary participation in the collaborative innovation process of the platform ecosystem. Research findings indicate that complementarians form a collaborative innovation network with the platform through means such as resource complementarity, knowledge sharing, and network embedding, jointly creating and capturing value. However, the issue of benefit distribution still requires attention. The platform governance mechanism, trust relationship and incentive mechanism have a significant regulatory effect on the collaborative innovation effect, but the long-term stability cannot be fully guaranteed. This research provides a theoretical basis and practical inspiration for platform enterprises to optimize ecosystem governance and enhance the efficiency of collaborative innovation, revealing the intrinsic mechanism of collaborative innovation and value co-creation among complements in the digital platform ecosystem. However, cross-cultural adaptability remains to be further explored.
